The Riverview Rams Varsity Girls (2-2) traveled across state for a non-district matchup against the Jensen Beach Falcons (3-0) and lost, 17-16. The game can best be described as a “tale of two halves.” Jensen Beach jumped out to a quick 11-5 lead in the first half with seven different players finding the back of the net. Riverview’s shooting percentage was limited to 36% in the first half. In the second half, the Rams’ offense came alive. Riverview’s shooting percentage improved to 58%, and the Rams scored the first 7 goals of the second half to take a one-goal lead over the Falcons with 19 minutes remaining in the game on a goal by senior Katie Hazlett, assisted by sophomore Caroline Steinwachs. The lead would change hands a couple more times, and with just 25 seconds remaining in regulation, Riverview junior, Susan Lowther was able to tie the game, but it was short-lived, because with just 1 second remaining on the clock, Jensen Beach junior, Julia Kerr would slip a shot past Riverview goalie Mia Rey for the game winner, her fifth goal of the game.
Riverview’s scoring was lead by sophomore Caroline Steinwachs with 6 points (5G/1A) and junior Susan Lowther with 5 goals. Jensen Beach’s scoring was lead by Julia Kerr and Kai Valko, scoring 5 goals, apiece, for the Falcons.
