Riverview Rams vs. Gulf Breeze

Playing their third game in less than 24 hours, the Riverview Rams Varsity Girls (7-3) played their second game of the day at the IMG Sports Complex against the Gulf Breeze Dolphins (6-4) from Pensacola.  The Rams shook off their earlier 19-6 defeat against the undefeated IMG Ascenders (5-0) and quickly jumped out to a 9-5 halftime lead over the Dolphins, with 6 different Rams finding the back of the net.  Early in the 2nd half, Gulf Breeze would trim the Rams’ lead to 9-7, but goals by Riverview’s Madelyn Diago and Chloe Hackl would push the Rams back up by four goals.  With just over 15 minutes remaining in the 2nd half, and Riverview holding a 13-10 lead, inclement weather moved in and the officials called the game, giving the victory to the Rams.

Riverview’s scoring was lead by sophomore Susan Lowther with 8 points (3G/5A), Caroline Steinwachs 4 points (1G/3A), Chloe Hackl 3 points (3G) and Clara Keyvani 3 points (2G/1A).

It was a historical game for Riverview sophomore Susan Lowther, as her 8-point game puts her at 107 career points for the Rams, and in 2nd place on Riverview’s “All-time Career Points,” just 41 points behind the Rams’ all-time leader, Ronnie McCurdy (148). Congratulations Susan!

Less than 24 hours after traveling to Tampa and losing a tough battle against the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers, the Lady Rams (6-3) were back on the road traveling to Bradenton to play a couple of games at the IMG Academy sports complex.  Their first game against the undefeated IMG Academy Ascenders (5-0) showcased the talent of the IMG lacrosse program, as the Ascenders cruised to an easy 19-6 victory.  The Rams scored first, with sophomore Susan Lowther picking up the first goal, but IMG reeled off 7 straight goals after that, setting the pace for the rest of the game. The Rams scoring was lead by freshman Caroline Steinwachs with 3 goals.

The Ascenders leading scorer was sophomore Cece Bliss with 4 goals.  IMG’s well-balanced offense saw 11 different players contribute goals.

Another late season add to the schedule, the Varsity Girls traveled up to Bradenton to take on the IMG Academy Ascenders.  The Ascenders jumped out to a quick, 8-1 lead in the first half, and cruised to a 14-2 victory.  Although 14 goals are a lot of balls getting into the net, it was the 12 saves by Riverview’s goalie Mia Rey that was equally as impressive.  The Rams will play their final game of the regular season this Friday against the Community School of Naples.
