FHSAA Regional Semi-Final – Newsome Wolves @ Riverview Rams

The Rams (14-4) were hosts to the Newsome Wolves (16-2) at the Ram Bowl in the Regional Semi-Final, and the Wolves secured their spot in the Regional Final with an 18-7 win, and will move on to play the Plant Panthers. Newsome’s only two losses on the season came at the hands of Plant.

Game Summary: The Rams scoring was led by Blake Quigley with 4 points (3G/1A). Tyler Horiuchi had 2 goals.  Newsome’s scoring was led by Luke Haley with 10 points (6G/4A).  Ashton Kitchener had  4 goals.

Newsome High School was established in 2003 and is located in Lithia, Florida, with a student population of 3,034.

2021 Division 2, Region 3, District 12 Playoffs (Championship)

2021 FHSAA Division 2A, District 12 Championship

The Riverview Rams defeated the Gulf Coast Sharks at the Ram Bowl, 11-7, and we’re crowned District Champion.  The Rams will move on to the FHSAA State Tournament, which starts on Friday, April 23, and will host District 11’s Champion, Newsome Wolves at the Ram Bowl.  This was Riverview’s 2nd District Championship in program history, with their 1st Championship coming in 2017, against the Cardinal Mooney Cougars in overtime, 9-8.

The Rams scoring was led by Senior Sam Lehrman with 4 points (1G/3A).  Kevin Southerland, Will Evans and Andrew Dirocco had 2 goals, each. Senior Tyler Horiuchi had another solid night on defense, with 6 ground balls and 4 takeaways. Riverview’s Johnson had 13 saves in goal.

Gulf Coast scoring was led by Trace Davidson with 4 points (2G/2A). Austin Nichol scored 2 goals for the Sharks, as well.

2021 Division 2, Region 3, District 11 Playoffs (Championship) Riverview Rams vs. Newsome Wolves

The Riverview Rams (7-7-1) were defeated by the the Newsome Wolves (13-1) in the Division 2A, District 11 District Championship at the Ram Bowl.  The game remained close through the first half, and with only 18:24 remaining in the game, the Rams pulled within one goal when Clementine Schwartz scored, making it 9-8, Newsome. Unfortunately, the Wolves were able to rattle off 6 unanswered goals, and secured the 19-11 win and the District title. Amelia Malkin led all Rams with 5 goals. Newsome’s Samantha Swanovich and Taylor Dabney had 5 goals, apiece.

2021 2A District 11 Semi-Finals – Lakewood Ranch Mustangs vs. Riverview Rams

The Lakewood Ranch Mustangs faced the Riverview Rams Varsity Girls at the Ram Bowl in the District Semi-Finals.  The Rams jumped out to an early 12-2, lead at halftime, and tamed the Mustangs enroute to a 19-3 victory, and a spot in the District 11 Championship game on Thursday night in the Ram Bowl, where they will face the 16-1, Newsome Wolves.

Susan Lowther was nearly perfect at the draw circle, and just as impressive with her shooting, finding the back of the net six times.  Alexis Whitmore had 5 goals, as well.  Mia Rey was outstanding in goal, with 19 saves.
