Sickles Gryphons vs. Riverview Rams (FHSAA 2A Region 3 Quarterfinals)

The Riverview Rams, 2025 2A, Region 3, District 12 Champions, defeated the Sickles Gryphons in the Region 3 Quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 22 at the Ram Bowl, 12-11. The Rams went into the 1st half break with a 7-4 lead, and continued to keep the Gryphons at a 3-goal distance for most of the game. However, in the final minutes of play, Sickles pulled within 1 goal with less than 90 seconds to play in regulation on a goal by freshman Sickles attacker, Abriana Mariani. With Sickles sophomore draw specialist, Keira Lupis winning the final draw, it looked like the Gryphons were about to tie the game when senior midfielder, Caroline Steinwachs scooped up a loose groundball, and the Rams were able to run out the clock and move on to the FHSAA “Sweet 16” Regional Semifinals for the second year in-a-row. The Rams will play at Plant (20-0) on Tuesday, April 29, who defeated the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs, 20-2, in their quarterfinals matchup.

Riverview sophomore Maria Berzins led all players with 7 points (3G/4A). Senior Steinwachs had 6 points (5G/1A) and freshman Ella Berzins had 2 goals for the Rams. Junior attacker, Peyton Oderman had 5 points (4G/1A) and Lupis had 4 assists for Sickles.
