Recap
Sarasota, FL – Winners of their respective districts, and Round 1 regional games, the Riverview Rams (14-6/#31) and Barron Collier Cougars (19-1/#5) played in Round 2 of the FHSAA Lacrosse State Championship Series on Tuesday night. In their first year of playoff eligibility, the Rams advanced to the “Sweet 16” of the High School lacrosse playoffs and faced the #5 ranked Cougars, for an opportunity to move on to Round 3 “The Elite 8.”
Unlike their first meeting earlier in the season, where the Cougars jumped out to an unsurmountable 10-1 halftime lead, this game would remain close throughout, with the two teams tied in the fourth quarter until the Cougars went ahead with only 3:14 remaining in the game, and held on for the 9-8 victory. This is the fifth consecutive year Barron Collier has won the Round 2 game, who will now face the Benjamin School in the Round 3 play-in game. Multiple Ram players scored three points for the Rams: Reed Windom (3 Goals), Cole Hautamaki (2 Goals and 1 Assist), Mike Van Ness (1 Goal and 2 Assists) and Jesse Clark (1 Goal and 2 Assists). Evan Goff had two assists and Dusty Hibbs also contributed a goal.
With his three points from this game, Senior Jesse Clark finishes his season with 151 TOTAL CAREER POINTS (98 Goals and 53 Assists).
