Recap
The 2017 Regional Champions, Barron Collier Cougars came to the Ram Bowl, looking to continue their dominance over District 17. Last season, the Cougars won both games, including a thrilling playoff game at the Ram Bowl, 9-8. This game lived up to the hype, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the game. With less than 75 seconds to go in regulation, the Rams took the lead with a key takeaway by Senior Connor Sinclair that lead to a score by Senior Evan Goff. However, with only 4.8 seconds remaining in regulation, the Cougars’ Adam Suid tied it up and forced the overtime. Neither team could find the net in the first 4-minute overtime, however, in the second overtime, Rams’ Sophomore Matt Garcia picked up a loose groundball in front of the net and scored the game winner for the Rams. Scoring for the Rams was lead by Evan Goff (4 goals), Matt Garcia (2 goals), and Peter Giannone (1 goal and 2 assists). Rams Sophomore Goalie Conor O’Neill had a total of 10 saves, including two in overtime. Connor Sinclair had 6 ground balls and Rhys McRobb won 13 out-of 17 faceoffs for Riverview. Will Asher lead the scoring for the Cougars, with 3 points (2 goals & 1 assist).
