Recap
Picking up their first win of the 2021 season earlier in the week against the Durant Cougars, 25-0, the Rams faced a hungry Manatee Hurricane team still looking for their first victory. Riverview jumped out to an early 6-3 halftime lead over the Canes, that could have been much more if not for the strong play of Manatee’s goalie, Carlee Shultz. Manatee pulled within one goal in the second half (6-5) with 12 minutes remaining, on a goal by the Cane’s Cara Carter, but the Rams answered with three more goals in the final 10 minutes to secure the 9-7 district win.
Highlight of the matchup came with just under 8 minutes left in the game, when sophomore Katie Hazelett forced a turnover, maneuvered around two Manatee defenders, and found a wide open Chloe Jarman for a slant pass and score. Freshman Susan Lowther led all Rams scorers with 3 goals. Rams’ goalie Mia Rey had one of her best games, recording 10 saves.
