Recap
The Riverview Rams closed out their season tonight in a game which marked an indication for future success. Our Rams played hard and kept the viewers on the edge of their seats right up to the last minute of the game. Out-Of-Door Academy held onto their early lead through teamwork and patience. ODA deserves mention today because they are simply that good. Their demonstration of ball control, both at the draw and on offense, was complimented by their relentless “crease to crease” pressure while playing defense. They are a great team and they deserve special mention.. because we will be seeing them again.. and again… and again.. for the next three years we will be facing off against Morgan Hoerner and Hannah Greenblott (Greenblott was individually responsible for 5 of ODA’s Goals) and let’s not forget 12 year old Sophie Macleod the 7th Grader who we will have to face for the next 5 years! Congratulations to ODA! We look forward to next year!
With the acknowledgement of our opponents we can truly appreciate the fight our women faced tonight. Our Rams played a hard game right to the end… and it did seem we had a chance to pull it out… but as fate would have it, we, like so many other great teams, in so many other sports, have to end our season on a loss. But WOW what a game! Not only did we see Kate Zoltak net the ball twice on her traditional feed from Veronica McCurdy, but we saw McCurdy scramble to the net five times. Each of the women set personal bench marks for next season. Zoltak rang up her 50th point and McCurdy …well… with all those assists McCurdy hit the 75 point mark and tacked on an addition 5 points for a whopping 80 points on the season. There you go Shooters! … There is something to shoot FOR !
Rounding out our scoring Zayda Fredericks capitalized on her, team high for the game, 8 ground balls …with 3 goals… Marisa Souchak also flashed some light on the scoreboard with the first goal of the second half and started the march to the final minutes.
In a game with this much scoring we must recognize the potential for what could have been… our goalies Kellianne Aaron and Hailey Brimingham made more than a few saves keeping our hopes alive for next season. They will both be returning next year and we can expect continued success. They have shown that when the ball gets by 11 other players… they will be the one to step up and do what needs to be done.
Congratulations Rams on a great season.. we look forward to the years to come!
Thank you to the officials who had a tough job tonight… they did a great job calling the ball! It may have seemed from the stands that the whistle was blowing strong… but there were real reasons for those whistling winds! Thank you refs for keeping it safe!
We wish the best for a speedy recovery to ODA’s Sereena Feeney who left the game with a knee injury at 21:51 in the first half. Also well wishes to Goalie Lizzie Karp-Hauser who took a brutal shot to the head tonight while making a save on a free position shot with 10:07 left in the game. Good Luck Ladies and Good Luck ODA! We wish you continued success… It will only make victory sweeter when we again meet next year! (Smiles from the ScoreKeepers!)
GO RAMS!
