Recap
The Riverview Rams Varsity Boys (10-8) were defeated by the Gulf Coast Sharks (11-6) in the District 12 Championship, 8-5.
For the second straight year, the Rams hosted the Sharks for the FHSAA District 12 Championship game. In 2021, Riverview earned their second program title, defeating Gulf Coast, 11-7, but this year, it was Gulf Coast that earned the trophy. The game remained close for the first half, with Riverview tying the game with only 1:06 remaining on the clock on goal by Senior Ken Kaiser. In the third quarter, the Sharks scored the first three goals, extending a lead they would not relinquish, behind a defense that would only allow 2 goals the entire second half. Gulf Coast was 10-for-17 on faceoffs (58%).
Kaiser scored 3 goals for the Rams. Kevin Southerland scored a goal and added an assist. Will Leffler had a solid night in goal, stopping 11 of the 19 shots he faced.
Sam Shields, Thomas Lucia and Quinn Helper each had 2 goals, apiece, for Gulf Coast. Shaden Shields had 12 saves in goal for the Sharks.
The Rams will find out this weekend if their MaxPreps PowerRanking will provide them with an “at-large” bid for the FHSAA Regional tournament.
